PURCHASING: Using the Internet to Drive Down Purchase Costs
Rod Sherkin, rod.sherkin@propurchaser.com / Propurchaser.com

There is nothing short of a revolution happening in Purchasing - a Purchasing Knowledge Revolution, - and enterprises that join it are gaining a clear a competitive advantage.

The revolution is powered by the Internet, which gives purchasers access to valuable marketplace information that was difficult, if not impossible to obtain before: specifically, information about suppliers’ input costs. Here’s why this kind of information is so valuable.

We all know that whenever suppliers costs go up they call purchasers for price increases. But we also know that suppliers don’t call when their costs go down: not surprising, because they’d have to lower their prices.

The Internet is capable of delivering information about suppliers’ costs to Purchasers’ desktops. Purchasers can now call suppliers for price reductions, whenever they see costs going down.

And it works like a charm. Suppliers have little choice but to agree to lower prices when confronted by a knowledgeable buyer. Not agreeing to a price reduction would make them appear greedy and hypocritical, which would hurt business a lot more than simply agreeing to lowering the price.

11:00 a.m.-12:00 noon - Mississauga Room A
