10:00-11:00 am
Value Engineering for Precision Metalformed Products
Wayne Tinder/Dayton Rogers

This seminar will focus on cost effective metalforming design principles. This workshop is designed to increase your understanding of important factors, such as: Tolerance, shape of initial blank, placement of holes/openings, placement of forms, material selection, and an exploration of part expense for a variety of stamping and fabrication processes. This seminar material will be especially beneficial to: Product Engineers/Designers, Project Managers, Mfg. Managers, Material Managers, Quality Assurance Managers, and Procurement Staff. All attendees will receive a copy of our industry recognized “Metalforming Design Handbook.”

1:00-2:00 pm
Industrial Water Treatment Equipment
Bruce Bernardo/Crossbow Industrial Water

This seminar will review the impurities in tap water that can cause problems for laboratory and process applications in various industries. Specific equipment and services will be discussed to provide Filtration, Softening, Deionization and Reverse Osmosis applications. Industry standards and Quality Control Standards will be discussed especially for Manufacturing, Rinse Water, CNC, EDM, Water Soluble Coolants and Laboratory Requirements.

2:30 -3:30 pm
Basic Design Considerations in the Use of Cast Polyurethane
Paul Oliver/Acrotech Inc.

This seminar is to provide a basic understanding of cast polyurethane and serve as a practical guideline of what to consider when designing or replacing parts with urethane elastomers. Polyurethane is considered an engineering material and is used to replace steel, plastic, and rubber in thousands of applications. We will discuss the types of cast polyurethane elastomers that are available, the kinds of physical and environmental resistance properties they have, and the typical applications that each will fulfill. Throughout this seminar we will provide real world applications where polyurethane is the material of choice.

4:00 - 5:00 pm
Improving Profitability through Lean Supply Chain Principles
Bruno Grise/Propel Consulting Inc.
This seminar provides an overview of the latest lean supply chain techniques and principles that small and medium sized enterprises can quickly implement in order to reduce operating costs. Learn from industry experts how the leading companies are reducing purchasing costs, eliminating inventories, optimizing warehouse and distribution operations and improving customer service.

Wednesday April 20

10:00-11:00 am
Beyond Stereolithography- Functional Aluminum and Plastic Prototypes
Paul Armstrong, Armstrong Mold

By marrying the new rapid prototyping modeling techniques with traditional crafts based casting and tooling approaches, it is now possible to get high quality, spec material metal and plastic prototypes in 2-3 weeks at relatively low cost. This seminar will take you from CAD concept thru finished prototype parts.

1:00-2:00 pm
Labels & Decal Specifications for OEM’s
Kevin Machan/Tailored Label Products, Inc.
As a manufacturer, you are faced with many challenges and requirements when it comes to labeling your product. From product ID on difficult surfaces, to ensuring safety information is legible and remains intact for the life of the product to complying with various regulatory requirements.

Tailored Label Products, an ISO 9001 registered company, will discuss industrial labeling, particularly for harsh environments. Also included will be a discussion on materials to meet UL, CSA and CE requirements. Variable image technologies (thermal transfer, laser, inkjet) will be discussed, as well as what is required for UL Listing Mark Labels. Question and answer period will follow presentation.

2:30-3:30 pm
Strategic Advantages and Weakness of Setting up Manufacturing Operations in Mexico and China.
Doug Donahue/Entrada Group
This seminar provides an analysis of the different factors driving companies to set up manufacturing operations in both Mexico and China. It will look at opportunities such as the availability and cost of operator and skilled labor, potential sale of manufactured products into these markets as well as availability of strategic suppliers. Inherent weaknesses including supply chain issues, raw material shortages and energy cost as well as other non production related factors will be addressed. Participants will obtain a macro overview of the strengths and weakness of manufacturing in each market as well as the basic factors necessary to build a cost model to evaluate cost competitiveness of each country.

Thursday April 21

10:00-11:00 am
Basic Spring Design 101
Ritchy Froehlich/Ace Wire Spring & Form Co., Inc.

In our “Basic Spring Design 101” course, we will be instructing Engineering and Purchasing on the fundamental requirements needed to properly design a compression, extension and torsion spring. This course will help to accelerate your “Requests for Quote” (RFQ) response time, by enabling you to successfully design a precise and effective spring for your application. Eliminating all guesswork and providing a quicker turn around for your end user, in an era where time is at a premium.

1:00-2:00 pm
You Want “HOW MUCH” for that Plastic Injection Molded Part?
Jim Dow/Diversified Plastics, Inc.

Ever wonder why you get such widely varying quotations on your custom injection molded plastic parts? Where one molder will submit a quote for $.99 per part and another for $ .15 per part? Maybe it’s because the potential supplier doesn’t understand your expectations. Come, learn the type of information that should be supplied with your request for quote to receive comparable prices.
