AUSTIN SCHEDULE

Tuesday, Feb. 12th, 2008

9:30 - 10:30 am
Beyond Stereolithography- Functional Aluminum and Plastic Prototypes
Paul Armstrong, Armstrong Mold Corp.
www.armstrongmold.com

By marrying the new rapid prototyping modeling techniques with traditional crafts based casting and tooling approaches, it is now possible to get high quality, spec material metal and plastic prototypes in 2-3 weeks at relatively low cost. This seminar will take you from CAD concept thru finished prototype parts.

11:00 - 12:00 noon
New Technological Tools for Your Product Development Toolbox
Ron Clemons, Director of Business Development, Harvest Technologies
www.harvest-tech.com

Since the late 1980’s digital layer-additive technologies (SLA® & SLS® specifically) have served product development applications remarkably.

Recent advancements have further enabled them to produce prototypes, models, patterns and tooling with even greater functionality, durability, size, detail and aesthetics. Enjoy an in-depth and interactive review of the latest in RP&M processes, post-processes, materials and applications.

1:00 - 2:00 pm
Shielding Theory and Design
Michael J. Oliver/MAJR Products Corporation
www.majr.com

It is important for electronic and hardware engineers to not only be knowledgeable of a products intended function and performance, but also the ability of the product to perform within electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) limits. In this talk, practical shielding theory and design fundamentals are introduced that includes electromagnetic fields, common and differential modes, galvanic compatibility, enclosure shielding and other related topics. A segment on enclosure testing is presented in conjunction with an aperture attenuation modeling program used to model attenuation characteristics at various frequencies and aperture size prior to FCC/CE compliance or MIL-STD 461 testing. As a final point, formulas to calculated honeycomb panel attenuation levels along with actual radiated testing of various plating (chromate, tin, nickel) on aluminum and steel honeycomb panels vs. attenuation levels are shown.

9:30 - 10:30 am
ISO – Vital for Small Business Profitability & Success
William Seethaler, International Management Systems
www.imsm.com

The new streamlined, lower cost ISO 9001:2000 quality system is designed to specifically manage the processes which compromise small business operations.  As the #1 quality management system in the world, it…

- requires minimal time to implement and maintain

- provides ease of staff training and ongoing utilization

- improves customer service

- generates additional marketing opportunities for more sales

- documents higher profitability and increased company net worth

Some of the many other management systems applicable to small businesses are

ISO 13485:2003 (Medical Devices), ISO 14001 (Environmental), OHSAS 18001 (Health & Safety), and ISO/IEC 27001:2005 (Information Security).

11:00 - 12:00 noon
Aluminum V-Process Castings
Gerry Byrne, TPi-Arcade, LLC/ Harmony Castings, Inc.
www.harmonycastings.com

This seminar will cover V-Process aluminum casting technology and its advantages, pattern-making techniques and CNC machining of castings. Fundamental casting design and cost drivers for both prototype and production casting and machining requirements will be discussed. Applications to medical, automotive, instrumentation, computer, electronics, optics, and communications will be reviewed. All attendees will be given a “Design Considerations and Technical Data for V-Process Castings” guidebook.
