Austin TX
February 15-16, 2011 - Lester E. Palmer Events Center
The first AmCon show of 2011 will be held at the Lester E. Palmer Events Center in Austin. Austin was chosen for its central location and the diverse range of OEMs in the region. The show will be promoted to buyers from throughout Texas, and draw most heavily from Austin and San Antonio (just 80 miles to the south). The show will attract attendees from all along I-35 and from the Houston area as well. Austin was named by Forbes magazine as one of the top metropolitan areas to lead the economic recovery.
As unemployment rates climbed higher in every major city across the nation during the recession, the jobless rate in Austin only rose to 7.1% in March 2010. During the same period, the U.S. unemployment rate spiked to 9.7%. A decade ago, Austin worked to attract hightech companies, and while some manufacturing jobs in the sector have since diminished, companies are still expanding their workforce. Samsung Electronics recently announced a $3.6 billion project that boosts the company’s payroll by 500 permanent positions.
